How Hotel Manager was Killed by Suspected Cultists

On Thursday night, gunmen believed to be members of the Eiye Confraternity fatally shot the manager of a hotel in Ilorin, Kwara State.Â
The victim, identified as Anthony Balogun, was managing the hotel owned by his mother. The attack occurred around 8 pm at the hotel located in the Olunlade area of Ilorin.
According to reports, two men entered the hotel and asked to see the manager. Mistaking them for potential customers, Balogun went to the reception to meet them. The attackers then lured him outside and shot him at close range in the chest. They also attacked him with a machete, inflicting additional injuries to his head, hands, and legs.
Kwara State Police Commissioner Victor Olaiya confirmed that the incident was linked to a rivalry between the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, noting it followed the recent 7/7 celebration by the Aiye group. Speaking to journalists at the police command headquarters in Ilorin, Olaiya described the attack as a new challenge following the police’s efforts to manage the impact of nationwide hunger protests in the state. He assured that the perpetrators would be pursued and held accountable.
The incident was reported to the Ganmo Divisional Police Station near Ilorin, and Balogun’s body has been taken to the Kwara State General Hospital, now known as the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin.
