How I Kept My Illness Hidden for 17 Years Before Going Public – Celine Dion
Celine Dion, the renowned Canadian singer, has revealed that she concealed her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome for 17 years before making it public.
In a recent interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show, Dion shared that she struggled with the illness in secret while also dealing with her late husband Rene Angelil’s cancer and raising their children.
The 56-year-old artist, who first disclosed her diagnosis in 2022, admitted that she had been experiencing symptoms as early as 2008.
“We didn’t know what was happening to me. I didn’t take the time… I should have paused and figured it out,” she confessed.
“And as if that wasn’t enough, my husband was also fighting for his life.
“I had to raise my kids, I had to hide, I had to try to be a hero – all while feeling my body deteriorate,” she continued. “I was holding on to my own dreams.”
Dion, famous for hits like ‘Think Twice,’ explained that she finally decided to speak about her illness because keeping it a secret from her supporters had become a heavy “burden.”
Recently, Celine Dion has described her experience with Stiff Person Syndrome as feeling like she’s “being strangled.”
She also mentioned that she often suffers from cramps and has even broken some ribs.
