How Kaduna Police Arrest 11 Alleged Kidnappers

The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended 11 individuals suspected of kidnapping, following orders from the state police commissioner to intensify the search for criminals. The arrests are part of a broader crackdown on banditry and other criminal activities across the state.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, the operation was prompted by the kidnapping of a district head on August 14, 2024, who was released on August 16, 2024. On September 2, 2024, at approximately 5:00 AM, police, working in conjunction with local hunters, conducted raids in the villages of Maraban Wasa, Gurzan Hakimi Mariri, and Abugan Kurama in Lere Local Government Area. This operation led to the arrest of five suspects: Abdulhamid Abubakar (30), Danjuma Luka (25), Ayuba Simon (50), and Idi Saleh (57). Recovered items include a fabricated single-barrel gun, a green Golf car, a Bajaj motorcycle, and eight mobile phones.

The same day, around 9:00 PM, police acted on intelligence about suspicious bandit activity and conducted a search at a motor park, uncovering four fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed within a shipment. The following morning, six more suspects were arrested: Lawal Murtala, Isa Kabiru, Auwal Surajo, Kamala Lawal, Umar Adamu, and Kabiru Liman. Items seized from these suspects include four fabricated AK-47 rifles, two English pistols, two pump-action guns, 24 cartridges, 29 rounds of live ammunition, assorted charms, a walkie-talkie, an axe, and ₦908,600 in cash.

Additionally, on September 3, 2024, at around 10:00 PM, police acted on a tip-off regarding a suspected bandit staying at a hotel in Tafa, Kagarko Local Government Area. A quick response team arrested Yahaya Yusuf, a 41-year-old from Kabo Village, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
