How Man Narrowly Escapes Death as Fire Engulfs Vehicle in Lagos
A yet-to-be-identified man narrowly avoided tragedy on Thursday when his Mercedes Benz C-Class caught fire on the Ikoyi-Lekki Link Bridge in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The fire reportedly stemmed from an electrical spark in the engine compartment. Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that their personnel received an emergency call around 2 a.m. and arrived at the scene shortly after to find the vehicle already consumed by flames.
Oke-Osanyitolu stated that fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported. “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency received distress calls at 2:10 a.m. and promptly dispatched its Shark Response Team from the Lekki Base,” the statement noted.
Upon their arrival at 2:13 a.m., officials found the car, which bore an unidentified registration number, fully engulfed. Initial investigations indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the engine.
Oke-Osanyitolu also mentioned that LASEMA’s Response Team, along with officials from LASTMA, LCCI, and the Nigerian Police Force, successfully worked to clear the burnt vehicle from the roadway, allowing traffic to resume smoothly.
