How Man who Call 911 for Help, was Shot and Killed by Police Inside His Home”

A man in Las Vegas who called 911 for assistance during an attempted home invasion was fatally shot by police. Brandon Durham, 43, was killed on November 12 after reaching out to emergency services while struggling with an intruder inside his home. His 15-year-old daughter, who was hiding nearby, and the rest of his family are now calling for the officer involved to be fired.

Durham’s daughter expressed her outrage, claiming she was “disgusted” by how police treated her father, viewing him as a suspect rather than a victim. She condemned the actions of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and said the incident left her without a father.

The officer responsible for the shooting, 26-year-old Alexander Bookman, was placed on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted. Bookman’s lawyer maintains that the officer did nothing wrong during the incident.

According to police, Durham called 911 to report gunfire outside his home and two people attempting to break in. When officers arrived, they found damaged vehicles and heard shouting from inside the residence. Bookman then forced his way into the home. Body camera footage shows Bookman entering the house with his weapon drawn, responding to loud noises from inside.

Around a corner, the officer encountered Durham, who was shirtless and engaged in a struggle with a woman wearing a ski mask—identified as 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux. Bookman ordered the pair to drop a knife before firing a shot that struck Durham. He then fired additional shots at Durham after he and Boudreaux fell to the ground. Durham was pronounced dead at the scene, and Boudreaux was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including home invasion with a deadly weapon.

Durham’s family, through their attorney, is calling for criminal charges against Officer Bookman. The family’s lawyer argued that while civil negligence may be in question, criminal intent should be considered in this case.

Investigators found no firearm at the scene, despite initial reports of gunfire. The tragic incident has raised further concerns about police use of force, coinciding with the opening of a federal investigation into another fatal police shooting in Illinois.

This case has brought renewed attention to police accountability, especially in the aftermath of the recent deaths of other individuals during police encounters.
