How Mother and Three Children Die After Consuming Suspected Poisonous Rice in Kwara
By Hammed Shittu in Ilorin

In a tragic incident in Ilorin, Kwara State, a mother and her three children have reportedly died after eating rice believed to be contaminated. The father of the children, known locally as Alfa Ahmad, who also consumed the rice, is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Ilorin.
The deaths occurred last weekend in the Oshin area along Asa Dam Road. According to investigations by FIRST CLASS GISTS, the first child, Abibat, fell ill and died shortly after eating the rice. The mother and her other two children, Zainab and Abdulfatah, also succumbed to illness shortly thereafter.
A close source to the family recounted that on Saturday morning, the family consumed the rice, and after the parents went out, they returned to find the first child critically ill. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away. Later that night, the other two children began vomiting and were taken to the hospital, followed by the mother who was also admitted on Sunday. All three eventually died at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), and their bodies have been returned home for burial.
A senior official at UITH, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the rice was indeed poisonous. The hospital has released the bodies to the family, while the father continues to receive medical care.
