How Peter Obi Stood Up for the Elderly at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s Burial – By Serah Ibrahim

At the funeral of Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Ogun State earlier today, Labour Party leader Peter Obi made a gesture that warmed many hearts. Upon arriving at the venue, Obi noticed a group of elderly men and women waiting outside under the hot sun. Security officials had denied them entry, claiming the church was already at capacity.
Despite there still being available seats and a shaded canopy within the premises, the elders remained outside, visibly uncomfortable.
When Peter Obi approached, the security personnel immediately unlocked the gate to allow him through. However, instead of walking in, he paused and requested that the elderly individuals be allowed in first—either to find seats inside or, at the very least, to wait under the shade.
His simple but powerful act of compassion drew smiles and words of appreciation from the elderly attendees, who noted that others had entered without giving them a second thought.
A quiet reminder of leadership with
empathy.
