How Police in Enugu Recover Firearm and Arrest Robbery Suspects
In a significant security operation, the Enugu State Police Command has recovered a firearm from suspects involved in an armed robbery and apprehended three individuals connected to the theft of iron rails. These efforts mark a boost in the state’s security measures.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced these developments in a statement on Saturday. The sequence of events began when officers from the Awkunanaw Police Division responded to a distress call about an armed robbery at a residence in Awkunanaw on the night of May 29.
The swift action by the police thwarted the robbery, leading to the recovery of a locally made double-barreled gun and two live cartridges, which were left behind by one of the fleeing suspects.
Continuing their crime-fighting initiatives, detectives from the Awkunanaw Division made significant arrests on May 30 around 7:30 p.m. They detained three suspects involved in the theft and vandalism of iron rails from a pedestrian crossing bridge near the Holy Ghost/Ogbete Market in Enugu. The stolen items were recovered, though a complete inventory is still pending.
The police statement highlighted that an in-depth investigation is ongoing to apprehend additional gang members linked to these crimes. DSP Ndukwe affirmed that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigations.
Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu expressed his gratitude to the community for their vital assistance in these operations. He praised the vigilant residents whose timely reports of criminal activities were crucial to the police’s successful interventions.
Commissioner Uzuegbu emphasized the necessity of community cooperation in the fight against crime and encouraged the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the police and other security agencies.
