How Portable Survives Assassination Attempt in Ogun State
Nigerian music artist Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt in Ota, Ogun State, after a confrontation with an armed individual on Wednesday. In a video that has since gone viral, Portable appeared shaken as he proclaimed, “They want to kill me!”
The footage captures a dramatic scene where a half-naked man, suspected to be the attacker, was detained while brandishing a firearm. Bystanders can be heard anxiously questioning, “Who pulled the trigger?” as the tension in the atmosphere escalated.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful, with spokesperson SP Odutola Omolola unavailable for comment. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Following the incident, Portable expressed relief at having survived. Recently, he had also been embroiled in controversy, clashing with social media critic VeryDarkMan, who condemned him for allegedly assaulting someone during Felabration, an event celebrating the late Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti.
According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, VDM shared footage of Portable’s altercation in a restroom and criticized the singer’s behavior, urging him to refrain from violence.
In response, Portable took to Instagram, asserting that he could easily confront VDM, insisting that there is a distinction between online bravado and real-life confrontation. He declared, “I am a one-man battalion. If I catch you… Don’t use Abuja to threaten me. Go and ask about me in Maraba Nyanya, or Babangida Market.”
Portable went on to clarify the circumstances surrounding his previous altercation, explaining that he had confronted the man for allegedly taking money for multiple shows and disappearing for six months. “My fans should know who I was fighting. We had a one-on-one, man to man,” he stated, emphasizing that the person in question was not his manager.
