How Pregnant Woman Fakes Kidnapping to Flee to Kwara, Says Police

Nigeria Police
The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that Rahemat Lateef, a pregnant woman who reported being kidnapped on her way to the state hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, staged the abduction herself.Â
According to police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola, Mrs. Lateef concocted the kidnapping story after suffering another miscarriage. Fearing her husband’s reaction due to her history of repeated miscarriages, she saw this as a way to escape.
Instead of heading to the hospital, Mrs. Lateef traveled to Kwara State and later returned to Abeokuta with her father. The police, who had been tracking her movements, found that her story of abduction by unknown gunmen was fabricated.
SP Odutola explained on her X handle that Mrs. Lateef had planned the trip to Kwara State to avoid confronting her husband. The police confirmed she was safe and under medical attention.
Last Thursday, her husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported receiving a WhatsApp message claiming his wife had been kidnapped. However, investigations revealed the truth behind her disappearance.
