How Three Police Officers was Killed in Bandit Attack in Kebbi State
Suspected members of the Lakurawa gang launched a deadly ambush along the Zogirma–Tilli Road in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, targeting travellers in what appeared to be a failed kidnapping attempt.
According to reports, officers from the Zogirma Division responded quickly to the distress call, supported by reinforcements from the 36th Police Mobile Force Squadron based in Birnin Kebbi. A fierce gunfight broke out during the confrontation, tragically claiming the lives of three police officers.
Kebbi State Police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday. He noted that several of the attackers were killed in the shootout. Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, praised the bravery and sacrifice of the officers who died in the line of duty.
In response to the incident, Governor Nasir Idris acknowledged the tragic loss and announced the postponement of an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting that was due to take place in Birnin Kebbi.
Meanwhile, in another major security operation, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 223 Light Battalion in Zuru successfully repelled a large-scale attack on Ribah town in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. Over 400 armed bandits reportedly stormed the town but were met with strong resistance from the military.
After an intense exchange of gunfire, the attackers were forced to withdraw, leaving behind several of their dead and a collection of seized weapons. Some of the gunmen managed to escape with the bodies of their fallen comrades.
Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, Director of Security at the Kebbi State Cabinet Office, confirmed the incident and commended the army for its swift and effective response. He noted that although the attack seemed overwhelming at first, the soldiers’ resilience and tactical strength ensured Ribah’s safety.
