How Troops Eliminate 140 Terrorists, Arrest 57 in Borno

Troops from the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have eliminated 140 Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents and arrested 57 in Marte Local Government Area of Borno. This was announced by the Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, at a news conference in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Maj.-Gen. Ali highlighted that the success was due to a series of air interdictions at Tumbun Fulani and other locations, as part of a decisive offensive to clear the remnants of insurgents around the Lake Chad area. Operation LAKE SANITY 2 has seen highly effective airstrikes by national air forces from Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon, which have destroyed key terrorist logistic bases and staging areas.

“Over 140 terrorists were neutralized during these air strikes,” Maj.-Gen. Ali stated. He also mentioned that 176 terrorists surrendered and 57 were arrested for alleged terrorism. The troops recovered a cache of weapons, including 796 rounds of ammunition, one PKM machine gun, five AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles, and eight magazines, among others.

Since April 23, dedicated troops have been relentless, recently clearing key terrorist strongholds in the Lake Chad area, such as Doron Naira, Zanari, and Bagadaza.

“It is important to acknowledge the sacrifices made during this phase; regrettably, six multinational troops have been lost since the operation began. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers for their eternal rest. Their bravery and sacrifice shall not be forgotten,” Maj.-Gen. Ali said, emphasizing that the success of Operation LAKE SANITY II is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the troops.
