Human Rights Activist Obawolu Aanu Slumps and Dies in Lagos
Prominent human rights defender, Comrade Obawolu Adedoja Aanu, has tragically passed away in Lagos.
Sources familiar with the incident revealed that Aanu suddenly collapsed at the entrance of her home on Saturday evening, shortly after returning from her business location. Despite swift efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead not long after.
Aanu was known for her unwavering dedication to justice and the defense of human rights. Over the years, she actively participated in various civil society movements, notably the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and the People’s Conscience group.
One of her close colleagues, speaking anonymously, expressed deep sorrow at the news, describing her as a “dynamic and relentless advocate who devoted her life to uplifting the marginalized.”
“She had just returned from her shop when the tragedy occurred. Her drive and commitment to the struggle for justice and equality will be sorely missed,” the source shared.
Until her passing, Aanu remained a visible figure in the fight for good governance, regularly participating in street protests, public forums, and community-led campaigns aimed at promoting accountability and social reform.
