Hunger Protest: Arewa Youth Declares their stand on willingness to enter dialogue with FG

The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has declared its willingness to enter into discussions with the federal government. They have set a deadline for the end of next week for the initiation of this dialogue; otherwise, they will resume street protests.

In a phone interview following his appearance on Channels Television, AYAGL Speaker Ambassador Abdul Danbature, who is among the protest organizers, provided an update on the situation. He explained that the movement was launched to address grievances and urge the federal government to address several key issues.

Danbature outlined their demands, which include reinstating the fuel subsidy, creating job opportunities for youths, halting payments to former governors, relocating all service chiefs to the North West to tackle insecurity comprehensively, and reversing detrimental government policies. He also praised the federal government for its willingness to engage in dialogue, noting that the protests were suspended due to their hijacking by unauthorized individuals.

“The main issues driving our movement are the removal of the fuel subsidy and inflation of the naira, which have negatively impacted the poor and increased unemployment. We see no direct benefits from the funds released to the National Assembly and governors,” Danbature said.

He added, “We have informed our youths that the core issue is with the governors who control federal allocations. We have also instructed local government coordinators to engage with the governors. We are prepared to negotiate with the federal government and have given a deadline of one week. If no progress is made, we will resume our p

rotests.”
