Husband Arrested for Allegedly Setting Wife on Fire in Ogun State

The Ogun State Police have arrested a man named Olubunmi Johnson for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo, on fire during a domestic dispute in their home on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota area.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Although the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that Johnson has been taken into custody in connection with the attack.
A neighbor who witnessed the event quickly informed the victim’s family, who then alerted the authorities. The police have since classified the case as an attempted murder. Officers from the Ilogbo Division acted swiftly, arresting the 55-year-old suspect.
Reports indicate that Johnson poured petrol on his wife and set her alight with a match. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by witnesses. In a statement, Odutola confirmed that the police arrested the suspect after receiving the report, and he remains in detention.
This incident follows a similar case of domestic violence in October 2024, when a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife, Olajumoke, to death in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after a heated argument.
