Ibadan Pastor Agbala Gabriel in Storm Over Fraud, Sex Allegations

Popular Ibadan-based cleric Kayode Amusan, widely known as Agbala Gabriel, has found himself at the center of a growing controversy following allegations of financial misconduct and sexual impropriety circulating widely across social media platforms.
For several years, the pastor built a reputation online as a compassionate religious figure whose ministry frequently organised fundraising campaigns to support sick and vulnerable individuals. Videos showing him praying for families in distress and soliciting donations for medical treatment regularly went viral, earning him admiration from many Nigerians who viewed his work as charitable.
However, that reputation has recently come under scrutiny after a series of allegations surfaced online. According to The Punch, the controversy intensified after claims emerged regarding the handling of donations raised for a woman reportedly battling a serious spinal condition.
The patient, identified as Morenikeji, had previously attracted public sympathy and financial assistance for medical treatment. Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola, who earlier supported the fundraising effort, later raised concerns about how the situation was allegedly handled.
Speaking in a viral video that circulated across social media, the actress said she initially helped raise money for the woman’s surgery but later distanced herself from the effort after learning that the patient had been taken to the cleric for further assistance.
“I initially raised funds for the woman’s surgery, but the amount was not sufficient,” Daramola explained. “However, when the family later took her to Agbala Gabriel for help, I decided to withdraw from the process,” she said, according to reports cited by The Nation Newspaper.
She further alleged that the pastor had promised to assist the patient with accommodation and medical care but failed to fulfil those commitments.
Meanwhile, the patient’s daughter also claimed that she eventually removed her mother from the cleric’s care due to concerns about how the situation was being managed.
While the debate over the medical fundraising issue was still spreading online, another controversy quickly followed. A well-known social media commentator identified as Iyalaje Courtroom alleged during a livestream that the pastor was involved in inappropriate relationships with women within his church.
According to the blogger, one of the women allegedly involved was Bolu, a former backup singer in the cleric’s church choir who was said to have become pregnant for him and later gave birth to twins.
“She was about 23 years old when the relationship started and she is now about 25,” the blogger claimed during the broadcast, as reported by Vanguard Nigeria.
The allegations were also echoed by a charity advocate, Princess Adeyinka, who claimed she personally intervened when the matter allegedly surfaced previously.
She said, “When I first heard about the issue, I went to meet him myself and begged him to take responsibility. At first, he denied it, but later he accepted responsibility,” she stated, according to The Guardian Nigeria.
As the accusations spread across Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, public reactions have been sharply divided. While critics are demanding transparency regarding the fundraising activities linked to the cleric’s ministry, some supporters argue that his years of charitable work should not be overlooked.
Responding to the allegations, Agbala Gabriel dismissed the claims, describing them as attempts to damage his reputation.
“This is how people try to bring down ministers of God,” the cleric told Saturday Punch. “Many well-known pastors have faced similar accusations online. Social media is full of false claims against men of God,” he said.
The controversy continues to generate debate online, with many observers calling for clarity regarding both the medical fundraising case and the personal allegations against the cleric
