Ibas Orders Payment of Outstanding Salaries to Rivers LG Workers

Refusing to be swayed by personal interests or external pressures, Ibas remained firm in his decision.

 

Clifford Paul, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Rivers State, and also the Head of Local Government Administration for Port Harcourt Local Government Council, expressed his gratitude for the Sole Administrator’s prompt action. He noted that local government employees had been owed two months’ salaries and thanked Ibas for ensuring the immediate release of payments.

 

Paul acknowledged the challenges posed by political tensions but expressed optimism that with the Sole Administrator in charge, the State would witness a new era of peace. He reassured the Sole Administrator of their unwavering support for this cause.

 

During a meeting with traditional rulers at the Banquet Hall, Ibas emphasized the crucial role that traditional institutions would play in the efforts to ease tensions, promote unity, and rebuild trust among the people of Rivers State.

 

The Sole Administrator expressed regret over the negative effects of prolonged political instability, which had disrupted the peace and order in the State. He highlighted that Rivers State, being a key player in Nigeria’s economy and the heart of the Niger Delta, should not continue to endure such instability.

 

Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to restoring pride, dignity, and security for the people of Rivers State. He urged traditional rulers to avoid partisan politics and promote constructive dialogue to nurture peace in their communities.

 

He stated: “Your Royal Majesties, I understand that the task ahead requires collaboration. Traditional institutions are an integral part of our nation. You act as a vital link between the government and the citizens, safeguarding our values and mediating during conflicts.”

 

Ibas acknowledged the wisdom, influence, and leadership of traditional rulers as indispensable to the collective effort of bringing peace, unity, and rebuilding trust among Rivers State residents.

 

He assured them that his administration would welcome valuable suggestions and contributions to help shape policies and strategies aimed at securing lasting peace in the region.

 

Emphasizing their critical role in fostering peace and development, Ibas encouraged the traditional rulers to work hand in hand with his administration to promote dialogue and reconciliation within their communities.

 

Ibas said: “Let us remind our people that the future of Rivers State depends on our collective effort. Only unity and cooperation will help us overcome the challenges ahead.”

 

He continued: “In our pursuit of peace and stability, I urge all traditional rulers to refrain from engaging in partisan actions, whether through their words or deeds. The traditional institution must maintain its neutrality and be respected by all for its integrity.”

 

The Sole Administrator also called on the traditional rulers to remain resolute in opposing violence, cultism, and any illegal activities, stressing that such behaviors would not be tolerated under his administration.

 

He further stated that his administration would hold everyone accountable for any disruption in community peace and stability, urging traditional rulers to take responsibility for maintaining order in their respective domains.

 

In response, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, praised Ibas’s appointment and noted that his leadership would play a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing conflicts. Eze Worlu-Wodo assured Ibas that the traditional rulers would collaborate fully with his administration, remaining committed to promoting peace, stability, and progress throughout Rivers State.
