IGP Pledges Strong Offensive Against Bandits During Security Visit to Kwara

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has assured residents of Kwara State that security agencies will intensify operations to reclaim communities affected by banditry and violent crimes.
Speaking during his first official visit to Ilorin since assuming office, the police chief met with security stakeholders and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, urging officers to strengthen ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the state.
Disu emphasized that law enforcement agencies would not allow criminal groups to displace residents or take control of communities. He stressed that sustained security operations were underway to restore peace and protect lives and property across affected areas.
The police boss also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could aid investigations and help identify criminal hideouts.
Addressing concerns about ethnic profiling, Disu cautioned against linking criminal activities to any particular ethnic group. He noted that several members of the Fulani community had supported security efforts by providing valuable intelligence during previous operations.
According to him, community cooperation remains crucial in confronting insecurity and ensuring that criminal elements are isolated and brought to justice.
During the visit, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adekimi Ojo, said the IGP’s presence had boosted the morale of officers and reinforced ongoing security strategies.
Disu also paid a courtesy visit to Kwara State Government House, where he met with the state governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, to discuss measures aimed at strengthening security across the state.
Once considered one of the relatively peaceful states in Nigeria’s north-central region, Kwara has in recent years witnessed a rise in violent incidents, including kidnappings and attacks in rural communities. Security concerns have been particularly pronounced in local government areas such as Ifelodun, Pategi, Kaima, Irepodun, and Osi.
Authorities say the increasing activities of armed groups exploiting remote forest areas and poor road networks have contributed to the growing insecurity, prompting renewed security efforts to stabilize affected communities.
