Impeachment Saga: Fubara’s Move to APC Shakes Wike’s Influence in Rivers State

Former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Austin Tam-George, has observed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has significantly shifted the political landscape in Rivers State, undermining the hold of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Tam-George noted that the governor’s recent alignment with the APC has disrupted political calculations across the state, prompting Wike to intensify visits to various local government areas in an apparent bid to reassert control. According to him, Fubara’s move has diminished the Wike camp’s leverage over the state government, forcing them to seek alternative strategies to maintain influence.
Tam-George warned, however, that the escalating political tension and rivalry could have negative consequences for the people of Rivers State. He said, “Governor Fubara’s defection in the past three weeks has clearly altered the political balance. In response, the FCT Minister has been touring local government areas, making threats and questioning the state government’s operations. This demonstrates how the Wike camp is trying to regain the advantage they previously held. Unfortunately, such instability ultimately harms the citizens who depend on steady governance.”
