Ini Edo: Why Marriage Isn’t on my Mind Right Now

Nollywood actress Iniobong Edo has stated that marriage is not currently on her agenda or part of her aspirations. In an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES in Lagos, the 42-year-old actress shared her thoughts candidly.
Ini was previously married to Nigerian-American businessman Philip Ehiagwina in November 2008, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2014. Recently, she sparked speculation online when she posted what appeared to be a wedding announcement, wearing a traditional Efik bridal outfit. Many believed she was engaged and preparing for marriage, especially with her caption discussing love and encouraging her followers to remain hopeful about happiness.
However, it turned out that the post was actually a promotional teaser for her upcoming four-part series, “My Fairytale Wedding.” The show follows a young woman who uses magic (Kayanmata) to win over Lagos’s most eligible bachelor. Fans soon realized that the post was tied to the series rather than her personal life.
In the interview, when asked about the possibility of a real wedding in her future, Ini clarified, “I’m not focused on marriage; I’m more interested in building a strong relationship. It’s not something I’m hoping for or praying about.”
She also discussed the evolving landscape of Nollywood, highlighting the significant role women are playing in the industry today. She acknowledged the contributions of female filmmakers like Bolanle Austen-Peters, Funke Akindele, and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, noting that women are now at the forefront of the film industry.
Having started her career in 2000, Ini remarked, “Women are owning the industry right now. We have equal rights, and the playing field is open for both genders. Women are driven and will achieve whatever they set their minds to.”
