Insights from the IGP Meeting on August 1st Protest – Inibehe Effiong

I participated in a virtual meeting convened by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to discuss the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests set for August 1st. The meeting also included the Force PRO, Falana SAN, Adegboruwa SAN, and several other civil society leaders and activists.
During the meeting, which had around 16 attendees, I asked the IGP if he was aware of a video circulating online showing thugs in Lagos threatening violence against protesters and warning people to stay away. I also inquired whether the Lagos State Commissioner of Police would be directed to arrest these thugs to prevent potential unrest. Unfortunately,
