IPOB to Southeast Governors: Don’t Sabotage Igbo Will, Support Okwukwu’s Leadership

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Saturday extended congratulations to Uche Okwukwu on his appointment as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo sociocultural body.

In addition to the congratulations, IPOB issued a strong warning to the Southeast governors and the Ime-obi of Ohanaeze, urging them not to undermine the people’s decision due to personal or political motives.

Okwukwu, a prominent figure from Rivers State, was declared the President-General by a faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. However, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, accused the Southeast governors of attempting to derail the progress of the Igbo nation for selfish reasons.

Powerful said, “The Indigenous People of Biafra, under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, commends the election of Barr. Uche Okwukwu as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“We also call on Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Southeast governors, and the Ime-obi to respect the people’s choice and refrain from turning it into another political battle driven by self-interest. The governors, especially those from the South-East, have repeatedly shown contempt for the desires of the Igbo people by engaging in activities that hinder our collective progress.

“If the reports that these governors, led by Hope Uzodinma, have rejected the people’s preferred choice in Barr. Okwukwu are accurate, then the chaos that has long been sought by their handlers to disrupt the unity of Igboland will become a reality.

“These governors have crossed a line with their shameful efforts to impose a politician who is not the choice of the people. If they do not change their course, IPOB, alongside our religious leaders, will mobilize all its resources to ensure that none of these governors ever holds political power in Igbo land again.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God. The people of Rivers State have decisively chosen Barr. Okwukwu to lead Ohanaeze, and no power will change that.”
