Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Threaten to Kill Netanyahu as Conflict With Israel Deepens

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Threaten to Kill Netanyahu as Conflict With Israel Deepens

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has issued a stark threat to pursue and kill Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, in a post on its official outlet, Sepah News. The warning comes amid escalating hostilities that have engulfed the Middle East following airstrikes by Israeli and US forces in late February. In the statement, the IRGC said: “If this child‑killing criminal is alive, we will continue to pursue and kill him with full force.” The threat was issued against the backdrop of widespread social media rumours over the weekend that Netanyahu had been killed. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) swiftly denied the claims, and Israeli authorities issued counter statements dismissing the viral speculation.

Relations between Tehran and Jerusalem deteriorated sharply following a surprise wave of airstrikes on February 28, 2026, carried out jointly by Israel and the United States. The strikes, which targeted multiple locations in Iran, reportedly killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s previous Supreme Leader, along with several senior Iranian officials. Iran has since retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory as well as US military bases and allied states in the region. The conflict has contributed to significant volatility in global markets, particularly in oil prices, which have spiked due to fears over supply disruptions around the vital Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Israel Ministry of Health, at least 108 people were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours due to injuries related to the conflict. The ministry said: “Among those treated in hospitals, two are in moderate condition, and 96 are in good condition. Nine people have been treated for anxiety.” Since the war began on February 28, a total of 3,195 individuals have been hospitalised, including both civilians and military personnel. Of those, 81 remain in hospital care, with one person in critical condition, nine in serious condition, and ten in moderate condition.

In a development reported widely by international outlets and noted by Nigerian media including The Punch and Vanguard, Donald Trump, President of the United States, told NBC News that Washington is not yet prepared to negotiate a peace deal with Iran. Trump said he believes Iran “wants to make a deal” but that “the terms aren’t good enough yet,” and declined to detail specific negotiation conditions. He also cast doubt on the status of Iran’s new supreme leader, questioning whether he is still alive, and stated uncertainty over whether Iran has laid mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities say they have arrested 20 people accused of attempting to provide information on Iranian military and security positions to Israel. Tasnim news agency, a state‑affiliated outlet, reported that the arrests were made in West Azerbaijan Province after prosecutors said suspects tried to send precise location details of military assets to Israeli contacts. Despite ongoing diplomatic exchanges and threats, military action has not abated. A source familiar with Israeli defence strategy told correspondents that Israel has launched a new phase of its campaign targeting Iranian security checkpoints, relying on information from informants on the ground. The deepening conflict continues to generate international concern, with analysts warning of intensifying regional instability and significant humanitarian fallout. Nigerian news outlets such as The Guardian Nigeria and ThisDay have also highlighted how global crises of this magnitude can have ripple effects on energy markets, economies, and diplomatic relations far beyond the Middle East.
