Isaac Fayose Declares Himself New PDP National Chairman, Suspends Atiku Abubakar, Wike, Makinde, and Others

Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has controversially announced himself as the new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), escalating the party’s ongoing internal conflict.

Reports indicate that the PDP is now divided into two factions. Recently, one faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) announced the suspension of Umar Damagum, the party’s current national chairman, along with National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. Another faction suspended National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order preventing the removal of Damagum as Acting National Chairman until the party’s national convention, which is set for December next year.

In a video posted on social media, Fayose declared his new leadership role and stated that any dissenters could pursue legal action if they disagreed with his appointment. He also announced the suspension of prominent party figures, including 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and others.

Fayose stated: “It’s official—I am now the national chairman of the PDP. Mr. Damagum has been suspended, and I’ve instructed security at Wadata House to hold the keys to the Secretariat.”

He further warned against any disruptions at the party’s secretariat, encouraging those unhappy with the changes to seek recourse through the courts. Fayose continued, “All those engaging in anti-party activities have been suspended. This includes Wike, Fayose, Makinde, and Atiku, as his ambitions are causing us trouble.”
