Jigawa: Federal Government Provides Relief Aid to Tanker Explosion Victims as Death Toll Reaches 182
The federal government has delivered food supplies and essential relief materials to those affected by the recent petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa, where the death toll has now risen to 182.
During a handover ceremony, Honorable Tijjani Aliyu Ahmad of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) expressed condolences to the Jigawa State government and its citizens. He noted that the tragic incident, which occurred in Majiya, Taura Local Government Area, has resulted in significant loss of life and property damage.
Ahmad stated, “We are here to convey our heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the NCFRMI and the federal government regarding the devastating tanker incident.” He emphasized the ongoing struggles of the people in Jigawa, highlighting that the agency has previously addressed issues stemming from flood disasters in the region.
As part of its mandate, the NCFRMI is tasked with coordinating efforts to provide protection and assistance to vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons, refugees, and returnees. Ahmad added, “Our goal is to find sustainable solutions, whether through returning individuals to their ancestral lands or facilitating local interventions and resettlements, supported by services like education and healthcare.”
The relief items presented include 200 bags of 25kg rice, 100 bags of 25kg millet, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 200 bags of semovita, and 50 cartons of seasoning. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to rebuild and strengthen communities in Nigeria.
