June 12: Bola Oyebamiji Salutes Heroes of Democracy, Promises Quality Education, World Class Infrastructure, Security of Lives, Property

• Questions Award of N99.5 Billion Ede Airport to Interior Decorators
The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, MBA, MPA, FCIB, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the heroes and heroines of democracy as the nation marks the 2026 Democracy Day.
Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) described June 12 as a defining chapter in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a symbol of the resilience, courage and sacrifices of patriotic Nigerians who stood firmly against tyranny and fought for the enthronement of democratic governance.
The APC governorship candidate paid glowing tribute to the gallant patriots who paid the supreme sacrifice in the struggle for democracy, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
He also extended warm wishes to the living legends of the June 12 struggle, praying that God grants them many more years in good health, abundance and fulfillment as they continue to serve the nation they laboured to build.
Asiwaju Oyebamiji particularly congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, one of the foremost champions of the June 12 struggle, for his consistency in defending democratic ideals and his unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of Nigerians and the prosperity of the country.
According to him, “President Tinubu remains one of the most consequential figures in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. His courage during the dark days of military dictatorship and his continued dedication to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria deserve commendation. On this Democracy Day celebration, I congratulate Mr President and pray that God continues to strengthen him in his service to our nation.”
While celebrating the gains of democracy, AMBO expressed concern that despite the conscious efforts of the Federal Government to ensure that states and other federating units receive significantly improved allocations following recent fiscal reforms, the Osun State Government under Senator Ademola Adeleke has failed to demonstrate that the welfare of the people remains its foremost priority.
The APC candidate noted that despite receiving close to N1 trillion in revenue since assumption of office, the Adeleke administration has struggled to fulfill many of the highfalutin promises made to the people during the electioneering.
“One of the grand promises made by Governor Adeleke was to transform Osogbo into a new Dubai and a mini London. However, the reality confronting residents today is far removed from that promise. The facilities and infrastructure available in the state capital do not reflect the enormous resources that have accrued to the state government,” AMBO stated.
He frowned at the deplorable condition of our schools and scarcity of good and quality teachers.
AMBO decried poor state of our health sector, condemning the lack of drugs in our health centres and hospital, a development which has impacted negatively on the public rating of the Osun health service delivery.
“It is saddening that after sacking 1500 teachers and over 500 health workers employed by the last APC government, the current government has not deemed it fit to recruit for their replacement in over 40 months. Osun now has a record of the state with the lowest number of teachers in the Southwest region just as the state has been rated as 2nd worst state with number of abandoned health centres in the country. These ratings are unacceptable. We must stem the tide before it is too late.”
AMBO further questioned the infrastructure delivery model of the current administration, arguing that a government genuinely committed to building a 21st-century state would prioritize competence, technical capacity and value for money in the award of public contracts.
According to him, “A government with a vision of delivering durable and transformative infrastructure will not entrust multi-billion-naira road projects to fertilizer distribution suppliers, cyber café operators and other unqualified cronies the way the current government in Osun has done. The people of Osun deserve quality infrastructure built by competent hands.”
The APC governorship candidate specifically questioned the rationale behind the award of the N99.5 billion Ede Airport project to a firm of interior decorators, with no known history of civil engineering projects, which in recent time has poorly handled a purpoted dualized road in Iwo, Iwo Local Government Area of the state.
He argued that major projects of such magnitude if needed should be executed by firms with demonstrable expertise and proven records in the delivery of critical infrastructure.
“As a state, we must insist on quality, professionalism and accountability. Osun deserves infrastructure that can stand the test of time and stimulate economic growth for generations.”
AMBO assured residents that his administration would pursue a comprehensive infrastructure renewal programme anchored on quality, competence and equitable development across all parts of the state.
He pledged to reactivate the Aviation City Project in Ido-Osun, describing it as a strategic economic initiative capable of unlocking investment opportunities, creating jobs and positioning Osun as a major destination for commerce and tourism.
He also pledged to provide renewed hope for Osun youths through qualitative education, vocational training, science and technology-based learning, entrepreneurship support and skills acquisition programmes tailored towards the demands of the modern economy.
“Under our administration, prosperity will work for everyone. We shall engage world-class contractors as well as qualified local contractors who possess the capacity, integrity and vision required to deliver projects that meet global standards. Every kobo spent by our government will be directed towards projects and programmes that create value for both present and future generations. And we will provide technology-driven security where no citizen will be hurt or attack without any traces. ”
AMBO promised to run a transparent and accountable government, assuring to give account of every revenue made by the government.
” The current payroll fraud detected by Sally Tibbot Consulting Limited which claims that N13.7 billion is yearly paid to ghost workers by the Osun State Government is a big embarrassment to the state. The scandal is arguably the worst in the history of public personnel audit in the country. Osun deserves better.
AMBO urged the people of Osun State to remain steadfast in their support for democracy and to continue to demand transparency, accountability and people-oriented governance from those entrusted with public office.
He wished the people of Osun State Happy Democracy Day 2026, reaffirming his commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive and economically vibrant Osun State where development reaches every community without discrimination.
