Kano Government Urges Tinubu to Remove Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, Citing Instability Concerns
The Kano State Government has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and remove Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from his position, citing the need to restore peace and order in the region. The government claims that certain factions are exploiting the Emir’s presence at the Nasarawa Palace to stir unrest throughout the state.
During a relief materials distribution event at the Kano Government House, organized by Tarauni Federal Constituency Representative Hon. Kabiru Dahiru Sule, Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo reiterated the state’s position, calling for presidential action.
“We are appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the Emir he appointed and placed in the graveyard,” Gwarzo stated. “The people of Kano, especially the youth, are fed up with this situation. It is shocking that in a democratic society, peaceful protests are being met with teargas, and in some cases, live ammunition.”
He further described the heavy military presence, including patrols and vehicles stationed near his residence, but stressed that such actions should not be seen as a means of intimidation. “This is a democracy, and it must be upheld, whether people agree with it or not. We support the youth who have taken to the streets to voice their concerns.”
Gwarzo continued to assert that the president should relocate Emir Bayero to his home state, as Kano already has an emir in the person of Muhammadu Sanusi II. “No one, no matter their status, has the authority to appoint an Emir in Kano unless it’s Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
The Deputy Governor also criticized the actions of security forces in dispersing protesters and arresting several individuals, emphasizing that citizens of Kano have the right to call for the removal of the Emir in a peaceful manner.
The Kano State Government emphasized that the law that facilitated the appointment of the former Emir also reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II, and it must be respected. The government reiterated its demand for President Tinubu to act swiftly and uphold the rule of law.
