Kwara Legislator Unveils Plan to Tackle Insecurity, Curb Kidnapping and Banditry

In a bold move aimed at restoring peace and stability in Kwara State, a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to address the rising insecurity across the region. The lawmaker, Hon. Abdulrasheed Ayinde, representing Ifelodun Constituency, announced a multi-faceted approach focused on combating kidnapping, banditry, and other security threats affecting communities in the state.

Speaking during a community outreach program held in Share town on Tuesday, Hon. Ayinde emphasized the urgency of addressing security concerns that have disrupted economic activities and instilled fear among residents.

“Our people can no longer live in fear. Insecurity has crippled farming, trading, and even school attendance in some areas. This plan is designed to strengthen local security networks and work in synergy with conventional security agencies,” he said.

Key Elements of the Strategy

The legislator’s plan revolves around five major components:

1. Community Policing Support:

Hon. Ayinde stressed the need for robust community policing. He promised to push for increased funding and training for local vigilante groups and neighborhood watch teams to enhance grassroots security efforts.

2. Security Infrastructure Investment:

The plan includes the installation of solar-powered streetlights in vulnerable areas, provision of communication gadgets to security operatives, and the construction of more police outposts across rural communities.

3. Intelligence Gathering and Youth Engagement:

According to the lawmaker, intelligence is key to preempting criminal activities. He revealed plans to establish a youth volunteer intelligence corps that will work closely with law enforcement to gather timely information.

4. Job Creation and Skills Development:

Recognizing the link between unemployment and crime, Hon. Ayinde pledged to initiate vocational training programs and micro-credit schemes for youths to keep them meaningfully engaged and economically empowered.

5. Legislative Action and Policy Support:

He also promised to sponsor bills that strengthen security laws and promote inter-agency collaboration at the state level.

Community Reaction

Local leaders and residents welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the legislator’s efforts would yield positive results. Alhaji Musa Salihu, a traditional ruler in the area, commended Hon. Ayinde’s proactive stance and urged other lawmakers to emulate his commitment.

“This is the kind of leadership we need—one that listens, plans, and acts. Security is not just the government’s duty; it requires all hands on deck,” he remarked.

Looking Ahead

With insecurity being a national concern, the Kwara legislator’s strategy is a step in the right direction, especially as states continue to seek localized solutions to complement federal efforts. As implementation begins, the eyes of the public remain fixed on the outcomes of this initiative and its potential to restore lasting pe

ace to the region.
