Labour Party Opens 2027 Presidential Ticket, Sends Peter Obi Farewell in Coalition Move

By Michael Adesanya – Abeokuta

As political activities gear up ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party has officially announced that its presidential ticket is now open to all eligible Nigerians.

This declaration was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, during a press briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Arabambi emphasized that the party will conduct transparent primaries and no candidate will receive preferential treatment.

Reflecting on the 2023 presidential race, Arabambi described the decision to field Peter Obi as a major misstep, arguing that the former Anambra State Governor lacked the strategic leadership qualities needed for national transformation. Instead, he claimed, the party had chosen a candidate driven more by emotional appeal than effective governance principles.

“The decision to push aside Faduri Joseph in favor of Obi was not just a mistake, it was a betrayal of the hopes of millions seeking true reform,” Arabambi said. “We need leaders who offer substance, not just slogans; people committed to deep, systemic change—not feel-good speeches.”

He urged Nigerians to choose wisely in 2027, warning against repeating what he referred to as the errors of the last election. According to him, the party should prioritize aspirants like Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, whom he described as disciplined, visionary, and better equipped to lead.

On the issue of political alliances, Arabambi was critical of the emerging coalition that includes Obi and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), labeling its key figures as “Yahoo Yahoo politicians”—a slang often used to denote deceptive individuals.

“These are the same individuals who inflicted immense suffering on Nigerians back in 2015,” he said. “The country must reject this recycled coalition.”

Wishing Obi well in his future political endeavors, Arabambi reiterated that the Labour Party remains open to all, including Faduri Joseph, who is expected to declare his interest in the presidential race soon.

He concluded by affirming that the party’s NEC will discuss disciplinary actions at its next meeting, including a possible expulsion of Peter Obi.
