Labour Party Rejects Ebiseni’s Claim, Affirms Dr. Olorunfemi as Ondo Governorship Candidate

The Labour Party (LP) has officially disassociated itself from Chief Olusola Ebiseni, who recently claimed to be the party’s candidate for the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16. Ebiseni, a prominent figure in the Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, had previously contested the governorship under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has not officially joined the Labour Party.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh reiterated that Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi is the legitimate Labour Party candidate. Dr. Olorunfemi secured his position through the party’s primaries in Akure this past June, which were supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). His candidacy was formally submitted to and recognized by INEC.
Ifoh also addressed concerns about possible interference from individuals linked to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who may be supporting Ebiseni in an attempt to undermine the party’s leadership. He urged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services, to take action against any impersonators or those using impersonation for ulterior motives.
The Labour Party remains confident in its choice of Dr. Olorunfemi, a well-regarded grassroots politician, labor leader, and educationist, as its candidate for the Ondo governorship election. The party has called on its supporters, particularly those in the “Obidient” movement, to ignore any attempts to disrupt the party’s unity and to rally behind Dr. Olorunfemi in the forthcoming election.
