Latest news: Rangers ‘don’t have the money’ after wasting awful …

Tom English has blasted Rangers for wasting “an awful lot of money” at Ibrox trying to keep up with fierce rivals Celtic.

The Gers have added nine players to Philippe Clement’s squad this summer, with Robin Pröpper the most recent arrival in Glasgow.

And English has suggested that the club’s finances are not in a good way.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (via BBC Sport, 6 August), the journalist said, “Rangers have wasted an awful lot of money trying to keep up with Celtic. Good money following bad money.

“They have got to put the foot on the ball now and say ‘enough, it’s time to rebuild’.

“That’s an impossible message to tell an expectant fan base. But that’s the reality. They don’t have the money.”

Rangers wasting money at Ibrox as they look to compete with Celtic

The Gers are one of Scotland’s biggest two clubs. Therefore, there is an expectation for them to be active in each and every transfer window.

In addition, their passionate fanbase will be demanding that they overthrow Celtic, but as English alluded to, that is something which the club are currently struggling to achieve financially.

However, their fans won’t hear otherwise or accept excuses, and that is what leaves the club in a tricky situation.

That pressure to spend and bring in a handful of recruits each and every summer often leads to some poor decisions being made in the transfer market as a result.

Money therefore gets wasted, which in turn makes it more difficult for the club to keep up with their fiercest rivals, who often find themselves boosted by cash from competing in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Therefore, if Rangers want to solve these problems, then they need to start making smarter recruitment decisions.

In other Rangers news, the club could yet be in line for a £25million-plus boost.
