Latest news: Rangers permanent bid can seal Hannibal Mejbri …
Manchester United only want a permanent transfer for Hannibal Mejbri amid interest from Rangers, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer specialist reported via GiveMeSport [7 August] that, while the “conversation is true” between the Gers and Man United, a move to Ibrox would be difficult this summer.
It is understood that a move to Scotland would be possible for Mejbri if Philippe Clement’s side offered a permanent deal, with David Edgar already suggesting that this would be an unlikely outcome [X].
Could Rangers striker a deal with Manchester United for Hannibal Mejbri?
Given the Gers’ transfer moves so far this summer, a permanent move for an inexperienced winger such as Mejbri may not be such a savvy decision.
Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Liam Kelly have all been signed as free agents, with limited funds spent on Robin Propper, Hamza Igamane and Jefte, and Oscar Cortes and Vaclav Cerny arriving on loans.
Dealing with a Premier League side such as the Red Devils, who will be looking to make as much profit from Mejbri’s sale as possible, will certainly not come cheap this summer.
This is not to say that the 21-year-old Tunisian international is not a talented player, but the midfielder has more appearances for his country than he does at Old Trafford, which should be a slight concern.
He only 13 senior appearances for the club he joined at the age of 16, with his best spell coming during a one-season loan with Birmingham City in the 2022/23 season, where he made 41 appearances.
Clement needs to start adding a lot more experience to his squad after signing a number of very young talents, especially after the likes of Connor Goldson and John Lundstram exited the building.
Mejbri would be an incredibly exciting loan player to bring to Ibrox this summer, but with Man United only looking for a permanent deal, money should be spent elsewhere at Ibrox. In other Rangers news, the Gers made an “almost criminal” Ianis Hagi decision at Ibrox.
