Lionel Messi Reveals His last Club He Will Be Playing For
Lionel Messi Confirms Inter Miami Will Be His Final Club
Lionel Messi has revealed that Inter Miami will be his “last club” and acknowledged that “there’s not a lot of time left” in his illustrious career.
The 36-year-old soccer legend joined Inter Miami last summer, concluding a 20-year career in Europe with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Since his arrival, Messi has scored 14 goals across all competitions, helping Inter Miami climb to the top of the Eastern Conference this season.
In an exclusive interview with ESPN Argentina, Messi, now joined by former Barcelona teammates Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami, stated, “I think it’s going to be my last club.”
Messi holds the record as Barcelona’s top scorer with 672 goals and recorded 32 goals and 35 assists during his two seasons at PSG. Throughout his career, he has amassed 40 trophies for club and country, including four Champions League titles and a Copa América victory. The pinnacle of his achievements came when he won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
Reflecting on his career in an interview broadcast Wednesday, Messi explained how the World Cup victory in Qatar altered his perspective. “I’ve done this all my life; I love playing ball. I enjoy the practices and the day-to-day, the games. There’s a bit of fear that it’s all ending. It was a difficult step leaving Europe to come here [Miami],” he said.
“The World Cup win helped a lot, giving me a new outlook. But I try not to dwell on it. I try to enjoy the moment. I do that more now because I know there’s not much time left. So I have a good time with the club, and I’m fortunate to have good teammates and friends by my side.”
Messi also expressed his joy in playing for the national team, where he has strong friendships. “I enjoy my time with the national team, too, where I have good friends. I appreciate the small details that I know I’ll miss when I stop playing.”
Despite injuries sidelining him for Argentina’s matches against El Salvador and Costa Rica in March, Messi remains a vital part of the team’s efforts to retain the Copa América later this summer. He marked his return to international play with a win over Ecuador on Sunday.
