Man Allegedly Kills Eight-Year-Old Son Over Misplaced Sewing Thread in Lagos

In a tragic incident in the Epe area of Lagos State, an unidentified man is accused of killing his eight-year-old son over a misplaced sewing thread.
According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on August 5. The father, discovering that his sewing thread had been misplaced by his son, reportedly became furious. He is alleged to have poured Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) on the child.
As the boy began to exhibit severe symptoms, including vomiting white substances, the father attempted to alleviate his suffering by giving him palm oil to drink. Despite this effort, the child lost consciousness and was rushed to a local hospital. However, he was pronounced dead less than two hours after the incident, according to witnesses.
A viral video shows the suspect kneeling before police officers and local residents, attempting to explain his actions. Due to poor audio quality, the details of his explanation are unclear, but an eyewitness noted that the boy was foaming from his nose and mouth.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Monday. He stated that the suspect had been detained on charges of murder. “On August 5, 2024, a report was filed alleging that a father had poured petrol on his son and pushed him after the boy misplaced a sewing thread. The boy lost consciousness, and despite receiving palm oil, he vomited and was later declared dead at the hospital. His body has been sent to a general hospital in Lagos for an autopsy, and the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba for further inquiry.”
This case follows a similar incident in July, where a man named Olumide allegedly killed his 19-year-old son, Adeyemi, with a shovel for an undisclosed reason. The suspect in that case was also arrested, and an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the death.
