Man Arraigned for Alleged Theft of Pigs in Ekiti

A 30-year-old man, Adeniyi Akinpelu, was arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges of stealing pigs.
Akinpelu, whose address was not disclosed, is accused of stealing five pigs that were entrusted to his care. The pigs belonged to Mr. Balogun Opeyemi, the complainant in the case. The alleged theft occurred between October 12 and December 3, 2024, in Ado-Ekiti.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, stated that the offence violated Section 302 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He requested the court to adjourn the case to allow him to review the file and gather witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Defence counsel, Mr. Opeyemi Esan, requested bail for the defendant, assuring the court that Akinpelu would not flee.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade granted the defendant bail in the amount of N200,000 with one surety who must provide a similar sum. The case was adjourned to February 14 for further proceedings.
