Gabriel Iliya Magaji, a 38-year-old resident of Masaka in Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has reportedly taken his own life following revelations of his wife’s suspected infidelity.
Magaji’s body was found in a classroom at Crystal School in Masaka.
DSP Nansel Ramhan, the Police Public Relations Officer for Nasarawa Command, confirmed Magaji’s death to reporters in Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday. Ramhan detailed that on Monday around 7 a.m., a report was made by a staff member of Crystal School regarding an unidentified man found hanging in one of the classrooms. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team responded, retrieved the body, and transported it to General Hospital, Mararaba, where it was pronounced dead. The body has since been moved to the morgue.
Ramhan noted that no suicide note was discovered, and the police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the underlying cause of the death.
A source familiar with the situation revealed that Magaji took his life after learning that his friends had been engaging in sexual relations with his wife in exchange for money. The source explained that when confronted, Magaji’s wife admitted to this arrangement, stating that she was compelled to do so because Magaji could not provide sufficient food for the family. She allegedly used the money given by her husband’s friends to purchase food for herself, Magaji, and their three children.
