Man Kills Online Girlfriend After She Refuses to loan him N2 Million

The Oyo State Police Command on Friday presented a 35-year-old man, Bolarinwa Segilogbon, who was arrested for attacking and killing a woman he met online. The woman, Amdalat Afeez, had refused his request for a N2 million loan.

Amdalat Afeez, 34, was known for selling ponmo through social media. She connected with Bolarinwa on Facebook, and their friendship eventually led to physical meetings. They had met five times in Ibadan before the incident.

According to Police Commissioner Ayodele Sonubi, “On July 7, 2024, at about 0800 hours, one Ajao Babatunde and four others reported to the Eleyele Police Station that they had discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified woman in a pool of blood at about 0600 hours that day. They later saw Bolarinwa Segilogbon covering the bloodstains with sand. The suspect was promptly apprehended and confessed to the crime. He had lured Amdalat under the pretense of connecting her with a bulk buyer but instead ended her life.”

Bolarinwa, an aluminum bender from Ilesa, Osun State, recounted the events: “I met Amdalat Afeez online while she was selling ponmo. We chatted and met in person about five times. On the day of the incident, I asked her to loan me N2 million at Oloogbo area in Ido Local Government, but she refused. Angered, I pushed her against an object, and when she fell, I hit her with a plank. Despite her pleas, I killed her to avoid being reported.”

In a related development, the Command also paraded three armed robbery suspects: Tajudeen Alabi (35), Taye Bola (25), and Olagunju Olawale (26). They were involved in a series of robberies, including an attack on a hotel in Akinmoorin Town, Oyo, on May 25, 2024. The suspects, armed with firearms and other weapons, broke into hotel rooms, robbed guests of their phones, money, and valuables, including a new Honda car. They also forced victims to transfer money into a PALMPAY account.

Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects, and a locally-made pistol and two stolen mobile phones were recovered. The case was transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation.
