Massive Defection in Kogi West: APC Gains New Members Amid Growing Support

Isanlu, Kogi State – July 5, 2025 — The All Progressives Congress (APC) received a significant boost in Kogi West as a large group of defectors officially joined the party during a well-attended rally in Isanlu, according to The Bureau Newspaper.

The welcoming event was headlined by Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, alongside former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello and Hon. David Idris Zacharias, the federal lawmaker representing Idah Constituency.

Describing the moment as “historic,” Hon. Zacharias praised the move as a clear sign of increasing trust in the APC’s leadership and the developmental progress being made across the state.

“I had the privilege of standing with Governor Ododo and our leader, former Governor Bello, as we welcomed new members to the APC. Their choice reflects growing confidence in our shared vision for Kogi,” Zacharias said in an official statement.
Strategic Growth Ahead of 2027
The wave of new members is seen as a strategic win for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party leaders at the event emphasized the importance of unity, inclusiveness, and continued development at the grassroots level.
Hon. Zacharias highlighted that these political realignments will strengthen the APC’s outreach and accelerate the state’s transformation efforts.
“Our focus remains on unity, development, and empowerment. With more hands on deck, the journey ahead looks even more promising,” he added.
Strong Turnout Reflects Rising Popularity
Analysts say the large crowd that gathered in Isanlu reflects a growing base of support for the ruling party. The presence of influential figures like former Governor Bello reinforced the party’s message of stability and continuity.
APC leaders used the occasion to call on more citizens to join their vision for a better Kogi State and a stronger Nigeria, affirming the party’s readiness to welcome all who believe in its mission.
