Matawalle Welcomes Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal to APC, Calls for United Front Against Insecurity

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has welcomed the decision of Dauda Lawal, Governor of Zamfara State, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a positive step toward strengthening cooperation and addressing security concerns in the state.
In a statement released on Monday, Matawalle said the governor’s defection to the ruling party was a development he had long expected, noting that both leaders share similar aspirations for peace, stability, and development in Zamfara.
According to the minister, the governor’s alignment with the APC would enhance collaboration between the state government and the federal administration led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He added that closer ties with the ruling party could create opportunities for improved policy coordination and increased support for development initiatives in the state.
Matawalle emphasized that the development comes at a crucial time, as Zamfara continues to grapple with security challenges linked to banditry and violent attacks in rural communities. He said stronger cooperation between state and federal authorities would be essential in tackling the problem and restoring peace across affected areas.
“As Minister of State for Defence, I look forward to deeper collaboration with the governor so that we can collectively strengthen security operations and ensure the safety of our people,” he said.
The minister also highlighted the political significance of the governor’s decision as the country gradually approaches another electoral cycle. He urged party members to work together in supporting the administration’s policies while promoting stability and continuity in the state.
Matawalle assured the governor of his full support, expressing confidence that unity within the APC would help advance development, strengthen governance, and improve security outcomes for the people of Zamfara.
