The Federal Government is set to offer 50kg bags of rice at a subsidized rate of N40,000 to public servants as part of its effort to address the ongoing food crisis in the country.
This information was shared in a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, authored by the Ministry’s Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola.
According to the letter, interested staff members are required to complete a Google form on the OHCSF website and submit it to the Director of Human Resources for approval.
The letter further explained that payment and distribution of the rice will be managed by designated officials. To ensure transparency, the chairman of the Joint Union Council of the ministry will oversee the process.
The announcement detailed that each staff member is eligible to purchase only one bag of rice. Alternatively, two or more staff members may jointly pay for a bag to share.
Staff members are advised to disseminate this information within their respective departments and units.
The Federal Government has also established centers nationwide where Nigerians can buy 50kg bags of rice for the same rate. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, highlighted this initiative as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader efforts to improve living conditions for citizens.
