NESREA Shuts Down many Companies in Oyo and Ogun for Environmental Violations; See Names of Companies

On Wednesday, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) shut down six company facilities in Oyo and Ogun States due to breaches of environmental laws. The closures followed non-compliance with environmental regulations despite prior warning letters urging corrective actions.
In Ibadan, Oyo State, Polyfilm Packaging Nigeria Limited and Bentos Pharmaceuticals Limited were among the companies affected. In Ogun State, the facilities sealed included Greenpak Specialties Ltd in Arepo, Kaltani International Ventures Ltd, Jics Industries Nigeria Ltd, and Ruili Technology Ltd, all located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
NESREA teams from the national headquarters, the zonal office, and the Oyo State field office conducted the enforcement operation. Mr. Toyin Obagiri, the state coordinator of the Oyo State field office, stated that the companies were closed for repeated non-compliance with environmental standards after receiving multiple warnings.
The violations included failing to perform environmental impact assessments and not constructing effluent treatment plants for waste management. Obagiri emphasized the importance of adhering to environmental protection standards, noting that legal requirements mandate an environmental impact assessment before establishing any facility. “If we find a facility lacking an EIA, we take action,” he
warned.
