News now: Alex Lowry exit update emerges at Rangers after Todd Cantwell …

Stevie Clifford has admitted he expects Alex Lowry to follow Todd Cantwell’s example and leave Rangers on loan before the transfer window closes.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has featured for Philippe Clement’s side in pre-season clashes with Manchester United and Birmingham City, having spent the first half of the last campaign on loan with Hearts.

Although Clement is set to lose both Cantwell and Ianis Hagi in the number 10 position, Four Lads host Clifford believes Lowry’s displays in pre-season will also see him leave Ibrox before the window closes.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (1 August, 24:30) he said: “Is it a case of waiting for movement on Dessers before a star striker comes in before a number 10 comes in?

“I think we need to wait and see I still think that a six is positive but I think a 10, especially if you’re losing Cantwell and Hagi and Alex Lowry I think will most likely go out again because I’m not sure he quite grabbed his opportunity.

“I’m only summarising what I saw at Birmingham and stuff like that, he didn’t look like he’d properly grasped that.”

Will Alex Lowry exit Rangers amid summer transfer speculation?

Despite being incredibly highly rated throughout his time at Rangers, Lowry has never quite managed to cement his place in the Light Blues’ first team on a regular basis and that appears set to be the case again this summer.

This should be the 21-year-old’s opportunity to force his way into Clement’s plans as the Belgian is lacking depth in the attacking midfield role, with Tom Lawrence and Kieran Dowell the only real options available.

Both of those players could even depart Glasgow before the transfer window slams shut. Had Lowry impressed in pre-season, that role just behind the frontman could well have been his to lose heading into the clash at Tynecastle.Hopefully, the Gers will be able to find him another good loan so that he can continue his development away from Ibrox. At 21, the midfielder could well be running out of time to prove he has what it takes to play for the Gers.In other Rangers news, James Tavernier has dropped a new exit hint amid links with a summer transfer to Trabonspor
