Gian Piero Gasperini considers Beto the perfect replacement for Scamacca who will miss the entirety of the 2024/25 season through injury.

Atalanta’s need for a replacement ahead of the new season is said to be “urgent” as they prepare for embark on a Champions League campaign after winning the Europa League.

Will Beto leave Everton this summer?

Beto arrived at Goodison Park last season with plenty of promise, having left Udinese after 22 goals in 65 Serie A appearances.

The 26-year-old struggled to find his feet in England, with only three goals in 30 Premier League appearances, but only 10 of those matches were starts.

Sean Dyche would be best keeping the Portuguese forward and placing his trust in him for the upcoming season, while possibly focusing on moving on the disgruntled Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It speaks volumes of the quality of Beto to have Champions League sides such as Atalanta and Bologna interested in a move (Sky Sports, 17 July) off the back of an underwhelming season for the Blues.

Everton are building a side that can play to his strengths. At 6ft 3in, he can become the focal point of the attack this season and benefit from the creativity of Dwight McNeil, Jack Harrison and Jasper Lindstrom.

The allure of the Champions League and returning to a league where he produced his most prolific form could be too tempting for Beto, but Everton must resist the temptation of another big-money sale and build the attack around the forward this season.
