Nigeria Grants Air Tanzania Passage for Direct Flights

Nigeria has officially granted Air Tanzania the green light to operate direct flights into the country, marking a significant boost in bilateral relations and regional air connectivity.
The permit, issued by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), paves the way for the East African carrier to link Dar es Salaam directly with major Nigerian cities. Aviation experts say the move will enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two nations, creating new opportunities for businesses and travelers alike.
Speaking on the development, a senior aviation official in Nigeria described the approval as “a milestone in strengthening African aviation partnerships,” adding that direct connectivity between Tanzania and Nigeria will reduce travel time, cut costs, and improve passenger convenience.
Air Tanzania, which has been expanding its route network across Africa, is expected to commence operations on the Nigeria route in the coming months. The airline currently operates a modern fleet designed to meet international safety and comfort standards, positioning it to serve as a reliable link between East and West Africa.
Industry analysts predict that the new direct flights will encourage increased tourism flows, with Nigerian travelers exploring Tanzania’s world-famous destinations such as Serengeti National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar. Conversely, Tanzanians will have easier access to Nigeria’s vibrant commercial hubs, rich culture, and business opportunities.
This latest agreement reflects a growing trend among African nations to strengthen intra-continental air links, in line with the African Union’s Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) initiative, which seeks to create a unified and competitive African aviation sector.
With the green light now given, the countdown begins for Air Tanzania’s first direct landing in Nigeria — a moment that could redefine the skies between the t
wo countries.
