Nigeria Is Colonizing us! — Americans React as Graduates Rock Nigerian Attire at Prom Nights

A growing number of American students are sparking conversations online after choosing traditional Nigerian wedding outfits for their university prom and graduation celebrations.
Instead of the usual tuxedos and evening gowns, many graduates are now appearing in colourful agbada, lace, gele, and other classic Nigerian styles. Some female students even order matching Aso Ebi for their friends, turning the events into vibrant cultural displays.
This trend follows the rising influence of Nigerian culture in the United States, especially through Afrobeats stars like Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Tems, whose music has gained massive popularity.
As Nigerian fashion and music continue to gain global attention, many Americans are jokingly saying that Nigeria is “colonising” their culture, while others simply celebrate the creativity and cultural exchange taking place.
