Nigerian Governors Meet in Abuja Amid Nationwide Protest Plans
Governors from Nigeria’s 36 states are currently gathered in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, for a crucial meeting.
The meeting, organized by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), is taking place at the NGF secretariat. According to Channels TV, several governors began arriving at the venue around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Among those in attendance are Governors Lawal Dauda of Zamfara, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Alex Otti of Abia. Deputies are representing the governors of Enugu and Borno states, Peter Mbah and Babagana Zulum, respectively.
While the official agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed, it is speculated that discussions may revolve around the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled from August 1 to 10.
This meeting follows an earlier consultation between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and several ministers regarding the planned protests.
