Nigerian Policeman Shoots and Kills Colleague During Dispute Over Used Phone

A tragic incident occurred in Lagos State when a Nigerian policeman fatally shot his colleague during a dispute over a second-hand phone.

According to a police statement, an investigation has been initiated into the shooting. The incident took place on August 8, 2024, in the Surulere area of Lagos, involving police aides assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda.

The statement detailed that at around 10:22 p.m., the Control Room was alerted that an officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto, detailed to Barrister Fapohunda, had shot and killed Gabriel Audu, a member of the same security team.

Upon receiving the report, the police team promptly went to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where they apprehended Corporal Umar Lawal, the suspect. Lawal’s AK-47 rifle, used in the shooting, was also recovered.

Lawal admitted to the shooting, explaining that he intended to target Vincent, also known as Dogman, with whom he had argued over the used phone. However, the shot accidentally hit Audu in the chest. Audu was rushed to LUTH General Hospital in Idiaraba, where he was pronounced dead.

The body has been photographed and is currently at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
