Nigerians Demand Accountability as EFCC Faces Allegations of Selective Prosecution

There has been growing concern over the alleged selective prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as Nigerians call for a fair and impartial investigation of suspected corrupt politicians, particularly those in powerful positions.

 

While the EFCC’s efforts to tackle corruption should be commended, questions are being raised about the agency’s impartiality, especially under the current leadership. There are mounting allegations that the EFCC is only targeting certain individuals while leaving others, who are also accused of corruption, untouched.

 

For instance, the EFCC has been reportedly investigating former governors such as Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, and Godswill Akpabio, with former chairpersons of the EFCC claiming that there is substantial evidence against them. Wike, according to a former EFCC chair, is linked to a controversial withdrawal of 117 billion
