NLC Chair Threatens Chaos in Edo State if PDP’s Ighodalo Isn’t Declared Winner

Odion Olaye, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State, has stirred controversy with his provocative statements ahead of the gubernatorial election on September 21.
In a video that has spread widely online, Olaye, while campaigning in Egor, Benin City, for Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, expressed strong confidence in Ighodalo’s victory. He warned that the state would “burn” if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not declare Ighodalo the winner.
Olaye stated, “I am confident that PDP will win Egor with 80 percent of the votes on the 21st. If Asue Ighodalo is not declared the winner on the 22nd, then Edo state will face severe unrest.”
His remarks come amid a backdrop of rising tensions and accusations between political parties. The PDP has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) plans to use impersonators posing as INEC staff to manipulate the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). In response, APC Campaign Council Media Director Prince Kassim Afegbua has dismissed these claims as unfounded.
