Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Brother, and 10 Others Arraigned Over Abuja Protest

The Nigeria Police have brought charges against Aloy Ejimakor, legal counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, along with Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and 10 other individuals, in connection with a protest held in Abuja on Monday demanding the release of the detained IPOB leader.

Details of the charges were made public on Tuesday by Professor Chidi Odinkalu, former Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, through a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to court documents obtained by DAILY POST, the group faces allegations including inciting public disturbance and violating a court order. Authorities claim the protestors obstructed traffic and infringed on the rights of other citizens by chanting provocative slogans and calling for Kanu’s release.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that Ejimakor, Prince Kanu, and several others were arrested near the Transcorp Hilton area. He stated they had attempted to access restricted areas during the protest.

“We apprehended Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and his lawyer because they insisted on proceeding to restricted zones. Alongside them, six others were taken into custody in the same vicinity, bringing the total number of arrests to eight at that point,” Hundeyin said.

He emphasized that investigations were ongoing and that all individuals found to have defied the court’s directive would be prosecuted swiftly. “They are currently being held at the State CID. Once our investigation wraps up—which should be completed tonight—they’ll be charged to court within 24 hours,” he added.
